The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organizing an official celebration to mark Africa Day

Algeria - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized an official celebration on Sunday to commemorate Africa Day, which falls on May 25th of each year.

On this occasion, which was held at the Ministry headquarters, the Ambassador of Uganda and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps accredited to Algeria, John Chrysostom Alentma Nsambo, expressed his deep gratitude for the firm positions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, towards African issues, noting that Algeria pursues a policy based on “giving African countries priority and a platform to shine,” and that it has “constantly proven to be a pillar of support for the continent and reflects the spirit of solidarity.”

In this context, the speaker stressed that Africa must continue working towards "decolonization" on the continent, expressing unwavering solidarity with the Sahrawi people who are still fighting for their right to self-determination and independence.

In turn, the President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, in his capacity as the rotating Chairperson of the African Union, highlighted in a recorded video message "the growing importance of the continent in global governance," considering that this reinforces African demands for reform of the UN Security Council in a way that "corrects the historical injustice" inflicted on Africa and ensures it has "fair and permanent" representation.

He also considered Agenda 2063 to be "the living promise of a prosperous, integrated and peaceful Africa," noting, on the other hand, that millions of Africans are still suffering due to armed conflicts, terrorism, violent extremism, climate disasters and humanitarian crises.

The African official addressed the situation of refugee and displaced children, stressing that "the African child deprived of education today is part of Africa's future," and calling for "maintaining education as a priority even in cases of displacement and asylum."

He also called for "a stronger African mobilization against terrorism," stressing that this phenomenon "does not distinguish between people, culture or borders" and requires "a unified, cohesive and sustainable response."

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of African unity, stating that "Africa becomes stronger when its countries speak with one voice," and calling for accelerating the "actual implementation" of the African Continental Free Trade Area and strengthening economic integration among the countries of the continent.
